Jobs for the Future believes that all young people should have a quality high school and postsecondary education, and that all adults should have the education and skills needed to hold jobs that pay enough to support a family. As a non-profit research, consulting, and technical assistance organization, JFF works to strengthen our society by creating educational and economic opportunity for those who need it most.
JFF believes that a capable, diverse health care workforce, with opportunities for education, training, and advancement is critical to the health of all Americans and to the strength of our economy. JFF undertakes research on key health care workforce issues and participates in, multi-sector partnerships, supported by public and/ or private funders, such as this Jobs to Careers project and:
- SkillWorks, a public/private funders collaborative in Boston led by the Boston Foundation and thirteen other public and private funders, targets industries offering career advancement-accessible opportunities. It is investing $13 million over five years in advocacy for the public policies and systemic infrastructure needed to support quality programming leading to long-term economic benefits for low-income, unemployed, and underemployed individuals in the Boston area. SkillWorks supports several intermediaries focused on health care including: The Health Care and Research Training Institute; Partners in Career and Workforce Development; and The Community Health Worker Advancement Initiative.
- Investing in Workforce Intermediaries: The Annie E. Casey, Ford, and Rockefeller foundations have launched this effort to seed a national support infrastructure for workforce intermediaries. The funders have invested in five cities and one state. Partnerships in the project sites are improving access to good jobs in health care and other key sectors, improving the quality of these jobs, and helping employers and communities to create good jobs. Intermediaries include: Baltimore Alliance for Careers in Healthcare, Inc; Bay Area Workforce Funding Collaborative; SkillWorks; the New York City Sectors Initiative; and The Pennsylvania Workforce Intermediaries Project.
